Tributes Gifts

Help the shelter by honoring someone in your life with a meaningful gift.

Memorials: If you have lost a loved one, consider honoring their life with a gift to SAFE Shelter. We will send a card to notify the family of your gift “In memory of their loved one.”

Gift Cards

Women many times leave their homes very quickly without packing. All they take with them are their children and the clothes on their back. A great way to assist would be clothing or supermarket gift cards.

For Children:

Clothing: New underwear for boys and girls all sizes, new or gently used regular clothes and shoes, all sizes. Youth size rain ponchos, small umbrellas.

School Supplies:

Book bags or back packs clear or mesh, black marble composition books, spiral notebooks, black and red pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, three prong folders with pockets.

Art Supplies:

Play Doh, water colors, colored pencils, crayons, oil pastels, poster boards, washable markers, paint pens, washable paints, yarn, string. Toys: Sketch books, action heroes DVDs (Hulk, Ironman), Play Doh, board games (Connect Four, Monopoly, Candyland), toy cell phones/purses/dress up sets, Disney DVDs, toy cooking sets, educational games & toys, dolls.

Teen Items:

Jewelry boxes, makeup, portable CD players, radios with CD players, gift cards to clothing, music, or book stores, bath products, perfume.

Help with Utilities

Strengthen Our Sisters, Inc has provided housing and supportive services to thousands of women and children since 1991. The shelter struggles to keep up  the utility bills.  The shelter owes over $50,000 in utility bills it cannot afford to pay. The shelter has struggled financially when government funding was drastically cut in 2012.

Strengthen Our Sisters, Inc. is completely volunteer-run and for many of its residents, a last resort for women and children struggling to get back on their feet.

Some creditors are lenient with Strengthen Our Sisters, Inc. and are willing to work out a payment arrangement, while others are not. Cutting off the utilities would put a lot of women and children in even a worse situation they are in now.

Shelter Supplies: Twin size bed sheets, pillow cases, new bed pillows, twin bed frames, strollers, baby beds and baby bedding sheets and blankets, gift certificates, brooms, mops, buckets, rakes, mowers, heavy duty garbage bags, window shades, tall paper bags for grass, lockable outdoor sheds for storage, portable screens for windows, pots and pans, silverware and door knobs w/locks.
